I set out to paint four fruit pieces for my “Italian Collection”, and “Black Berry” became the fourth in the series. I didn’t actually spot blackberry trees during my own visit, but dear friends of mine recently bought and are renovating a Tuscan villa and their property is home to some blackberry trees, giving the subject an authentic Italian tie.
What I love most about this piece is the illusion of texture - the way the berries seem to lift from the canvas, almost ready to be plucked.
5×7 Acrylic on 1.5” Canvas
